Antique Joseph Tonks Boston Smoothbore Side Lever 22 Cal Air Gun

Up for sale is an antique sidelever 22 cal smoothbore air rifle by Joseph Tonks of Boston, MA. Stepped barrel measures 18" in length with a brass sleeve inside a steel jacket with a mostly bright, good smooth bore with a thin line of pitting running end to end. Metal surfaces are mostly shades of brown and gray patina with scattered handling marks, scattered pitting and high edge wear and the brass trigger guard and buttplate are mostly ochre patina with handling marks. Area around the top screw hole for the buttplate shows corrosion and the screw itself is rusted. Smooth wood stock has been sanded and refinished at some point and shows numerous small scratches and handling marks . Rifle is sighted with a small bead front sight and fixed rear notch standing leaf.
