1861 Springfield .58 Cal US Percussion Civil War Infantry Rifle Musket 1863

Model 1861 Springfield US Percussion Civil War Rifle Musket, .58 Cal, mfg. 1863. This is an authentic original Civil War Federal issue musket manufactured during the height of the conflict that has certainly seen some action. Overall the metal has a very dark plum patina thinning to silver/gray with some fine shallow pinprick pitting scattered throughout. The lock is clearly marked “U.S. / SPRINGFIELD” with the American eagle and “1863” date at the tail. Very faint “1863” date on barrel with “V” proof visible.
Clean original nipple. Untouched bore is very dirty with heavy pitting and rifling visible throughout the first half of the barrel worn light toward the muzzle. Never altered for post-war civilian use as so many were this is a true battle hardened survivor of the American Civil War!
