1873 Colt Single Action Army Revolver 44 Rimfire

This is a very rare Colt and a fantastic example of a true Wild West cowboy gun. Between 1875-1880 a special run of Single Actions were made chambered in .44 Rimfire to compliment buyers who were carrying Henry rifles and Model 1866 Winchesters still very much in use throughout the Southwestern US and Mexico. Subsequently an overwhelming majority of these revolvers went West and saw hard use on the frontier. This example has the classic look of a cowboy gun with all the charm and character one would expect to find in a Colt that lived through the Wild West. Early on during the gun's working life the barrel was shortened to 4 3/4" with a small blade front sight neatly fitted. Aside from this common period alteration the gun remains remarkably original throughout. Matching serial number "1082" is stamped on the frame, trigger guard, backstrap, barrel, and cylinder with clear Colt address, "44" marked barrel, and early two-line patent dates.
