Belgian made Lefaucheux pattern pinfire pocket revolver that dates from
the mid to late 1800’s.
Extremely popular in Europe, these revolvers were produced in abundance in England, Germany,
Austria and Belgium by many different firms who often copied Lefaucheux’s design without
proper licensing. References indicate that this is one of them.
These revolvers are notorious to collectors for having little or no markings which makes
researching them difficult, but not impossible. Investigations must rely on proof marks but many
of the records were unfortunately destroyed during the World Wars. With that said, please see
the auction photos as this particular revolver does have proof marks and references suggest that
this gun was produced in Belgium, sometime prior to 1893. Further interpretation of these
markings is left to the more savvy collectors.
Using digital calipers, the bore diameter measures roughly 7.3 mm. The finish is largely an age
related patina. There is no rust. The condition of the bore on the 3 3/8 inch barrel and chambers
is reflected in the photos and is fairly typical for a vintage black powder revolver that is over 130
years old. The double action mechanics of the revolver function as expected
The
wooden grip panels have survived the years remarkably well and possess a warm antique color.
This is a very interesting and attractive piece of European firearms history that was widely used
during the mid to late 1800’s. It would make a wonderful addition to any
collection of antique firearms and is certain to increase in value over time. Add it to your
collection while you can.
