Super cool original Victorian era British “Sea Service” percussion pistol manufactured by Swinburn & Son. Either a Pattern 1842 or a Pattern 1856, though the lock plate date is 1855. Front and rear sights, which seems atypical when compared to a few others I've looked at. Unsure of the significance. Manufactured during the Crimean War. Pistol definitely shows wear and tear from service but remains in very nice, far above average condition. Lock is strong and tight, holding properly on both half and full cock. Half of the head of the hammer screw is absent as shown. Good bore – smooth and brown with light corrosion. One of the last of the main line single shot service pistols, overtaken worldwide by the widening production of revolvers such as the Colt 1851 Navy and the soon to be adopted 1860 Army, Kerr, Adams, Tranter, etc. Will make a fine addition to a British Empire or Royal Navy arms collection alongside the P53 Enfield musket, Snider breechloader, Martini Henry etc etc. Antique, so no licence required as long as you are not in a jurisdiction which prohibits direct shipping of pre-1899 arms to unlicensed collectors.
