This gun is listed by serial number in the Springfield Research Service book, volume 3, as having been inventoried and inspected on December 1, 1887 by the infamous 7th Cavalry. The gun itself is a model 1873 carbine that has gone through at least one arsenal rebuild and was then buffed and plated many years later. Most of the markings are no longer legible due to the plating, however the serial number remains legible. 1884 dated replacement breech block.
Lock is in good working order. 3 click tumbler. Bronze firing pin. Bore is dark and dirty with strong rifling and some rust and pitting. 21 inch barrel. The gun itself was made in December of 1880. While this gun was made too late to have taken part in the Battle of Little Big Horn and see service under George Custer, the 7th Cavalry remained in active service in the Mid-west for most of the late 1800's.
Serial number is 143508
