Early 1700's Dutch N@val Officer Pistol by Ger4it Lasonder.
The all brass hardware of this pistol and the South Pacific themes used on them such as parrot head on the butt plate, the pair of parrots on the wrist escutcheon and the tropical foliage used on all pieces strongly suggest that this gun was custom made for a sea captan in the Dutch East Indies trade. The lock mechanism works smoothly as it should. This is an antique pistol approximately 300 years old and should never be loaded and fired.
The overall length of this pistol is approximately 18 inches. The length of the barrel is 10 1/4 inches. This gun is marked on the lock behind the hammer by its maker Gerrit Lasonder of Utrecht Holland who worked from 1680 to 1722 and came from a distinguished family of gunmakers. See page 55 to 67 "The Lasonder Gunmaking Family" in C.A.Hartman's book Hartman's' Dutch Gunmakers from the 15th to the 20th Century for details..
