.577 caliber 1871 date Snider Patent breech loading short rifle with scarce Tower lock. The walnut stock is adorned with decorative tack work and hand carved name. Although there are no Indian or Nepali markings on the rifle, I would assume it was fitted with a shortened 30.5 inch barrel and possibly assembled from surplus parts as a Sergeant's Snider-Enfield type rifle during its long career. The rifle was built entirely from British parts. Condition is fair to good, with the finish turning a nice plum patina.
The stock has aged to a pleasing dark brown color and shows numerous marks from years of service. The brass parts have a nice patina. Interesting artwork on the stock, possibly a name inscribed surrounded by ornate tack work. No ramrod, bayonet lug or front sight. Good fully operational mechanics with functioning lock and mainspring. Surprisingly there is some rifling left in the bore.
