his high condition antique 1881 Smith & Wesson .32 Single Action Model 1 1/2 (also known as the One-and-a-Half Centerfire). Chambered in .32 S&W short with a rare factory 6" barrel, this revolver features a factory nickel finish and matching factory grips, now worn smooth from age. A scarce and desirable variant, this piece was factory reworked by Smith & Wesson and is marked with the S&W factory rework star on the butt, as well as the factory March 1926 return date and diamond refinish stamp on the grip frame.
The refinishing work includes a polished nickel application with slightly softened roll markings and an altered front sight, consistent with factory refurbishment practices of the time. While the grips show significant wear, they remain original to the revolver and are solid. This revolver is housed in a handsome walnut display case and still retains remnants of the original dried factory grease coating from its rework—suggesting it has remained unfired since that time.
Mechanically excellent with a pristine, mirror-bright bore, this revolver stands as a rare, high-condition survivor from the 19th century. A unique opportunity to acquire a very fine, antique S&W in collector-grade preserved state—especially scarce in this barrel length and factory redone condition with documented factory return and refinish markings.
