Up for sale is an antique Josiah Ells 1st model bar hammer double action only pocket revolver in about 31 caliber. Octagon barrel measures 3" in length with a marginally bright, frosted bore with scattered moderate pitting and a ding on the right edge of the crown. Metal surfaces have toned to gray patina with patches of older dark staining along with scattered marks and pinprick pitting and the revolver features some floral engraving. Smooth wood grips are dark from age and show scattered small nicks and dings. Revolver is sighted with a single front bead and the hammer is offset in order to see the bead. Action does advance the cylinder . Serial numbers on the left grip, frame, cylinder, barrel and a couple of the small internal parts visible with the grips off are matching. Looks to be an early 1st model with the deep groove in the cylinder with rounded frame and built sometime around 1857 to 1859.
