Gun has an even patina, however it has also had some restoration at some point. Markings are clear. Well marked N. CAROLINA on the top of the barrel. The gun was converted from flint to percussion using a Confederate brazed bolster. Lock is in good working order, the hammer is a replacement and loosely fits. The nipple may be replaced as well. The stock was arsenal cut back for a bayonet lug on the side of the barrel. The bayonet lug is not present, and the barrel from the front band foward has a smooth almost newer appearance to it. The bore is fine with sharp rifling all the way to the muzzle. The breech tang appears to have been replaced, but not sure. Wood has dings and handling marks. Original patchbox. Ramrod looks period, but also appears to have been lengthened. All in all, a well marked and undoubtedly Confederate altered model 1817 Common Rifle that has had some work.
