We are proud to present this period-inscribed and engraved antique 1891 Smith & Wesson .38 Double Action revolver, featuring a factory nickel finish and 3 ¼" barrel, chambered in .38 S\&W (not .38 Special). This early top-break model is outfitted with a period-correct set of genuine mother of pearl grips and shows beautiful, aged presentation.
The included S\&W historical letter confirms this revolver was not factory engraved but was specially ordered by the dealer for a customer. The barrel is hand-engraved with the name “Jack Steele,” flanked by simple scrollwork, giving this piece strong character and personal history. The grips are in good shape with no major chipping—just a repaired crack on the left panel that remains stable and tight. Mechanics are strong overall with excellent indexing and lockup, though the double-action occasionally fails to hold the hammer in the rearward position when cocked rapidly. The bore is generally good with scattered pitting.
A unique, named example of a customer-personalized S\&W from the 19th century. Comes with a Smith & Wesson factory letter.
