Here we present an antique Starr Arms Co. Model 1858 Saddle Ring Percussion Carbine, made circa 1862-65 in Yonkers, New York. The Starr carbine was a breechloading single-shot rifle used by the United States Army. Designed in 1858, the Starr was primarily used by cavalry soldiers in the American Civil War. The Starr Arms Co. manufactured 20,601 of these breechloading percussion carbines between 1862 and 1865.
The overall condition is good with some original finish remaining with signs of scrubbing. Action functions but is loose. The bore shows rifling and shine with pitting attributed to black powder, more prevalent around the breach. The hammer cocks and hold half and full cock positions. The walnut stock and forearm are in good condition with no cracks or splits.
