Here's a neat old-timer! Manufactured by Stevens between 1880-1911, this is a "Lord Model/No.36" single-shot, tip-up target pistol These were built on the same heavy frame as the Stevens "Hunter's Pet" pocket rifle. It wears a 10" part octagon/part round barrel with an elevation adjustable Sporting style rear sight and a protected front sight which appears to be adjustable in the dovetail for windage. The trigger guard incorporates a spur for the second finger. The grip frame is fairly long and terminates in an integral heavy metal butt that widens at the bottom and looks like it would function nicely as a cudgel. The frame is nickel plated, the barrel blued, and the hammer case hardened. The stocks are nicely checkered walnut. Overall condition is very good and the majority of the original finish remains. The nickel finish on the frame shows a small, smooth area of loss on the front/underside, there is a blemish on the left side of the frame, and there is some flaking/corrosion along the edges of the grip frame where it meets the wood. I'd call the nickel finish 90%+. The barrel retains the majority of its finish with only a little thinning near the muzzle. This I would grade 95%. The left side of the barrel is marked "J. STEVENS A&T CO/CHICOPEE FALLS, MASS. USA PAT. SEPT 6, 1864". The serial number (1233) is marked on the barrel and also on the frame beneath the stocks. There is another number on the grip frame and yet another number on the inside of the trigger guard. The stocks are in very good shape with a few marks but no cracks or chips. The action operates properly and lock-up in excellent. The good rates about "fair to good" .perfectly shootable! A neat vintage target pistol.
