This is an early Smith and Wesson model 3 top-break revolver that is chambered in .44 Smith and Wesson Russian.
It has a 6-shot fluted cylinder with an automatic ejector, and it is single action only.
It has a 6.5 inch tapered full-length solid ribbed barrel and has a bore that is in great condition.
It has a round butt, quarter-cock safety, and has a hump-backed frame.
This model was made from 1871-1878. The top rear end of the cylinder is marked with the low serial number “2970”.
The top of the rib is marked "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A. PAT'D JAN 17 & 24. 65. JULY 11. 65. AUG 24. 69. APR 20. 75 FEB 20. & DEC 18. 1877 REISSUE JULY 25. 1871."
The blue finish is worn, has wear marks, dings, and pitting in places.
It is marked with an oval at the bottom of the frame just in front of the trigger guard.
The action function properly based on visual inspection. The timing and lock up are great.
The trigger, front strap, and back strap are smooth. The butt of the frame has a lanyard loop.
The hammer is checkered, and the rounds auto-eject when the cylinder is opened.
The top break release latch is checkered. It has a pinned half-moon front sight blade and a u-notch fixed rear sight.
It has 2-piece smooth walnut grips that have minimal wear marks and dings with no cracks.
