Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor 22” Rifle in .45-70 Mfg 1887
Antique U.S. Military breech loading single shot rifle chambered in .45-70 Government, manufactured at the Springfield Armory in Springfield, Massachusetts circa 1887.
Features an approx. 22” round barrel, brass post front sight, fully-adjustable Buffington rear sight graduated to 1,400 yards, single barrel band, sling swivel on the trigger guard, smooth rounded trigger, checkered hammer spur, black walnut straight grip shoulder stock, and steel buttplate without trapdoor.
Markings: Barrel - “V/P/[Eagles Head]/P” & “W”. Lock - [Eagle/Arrows], & “U.S./SPRINGFIELD”. Breech Block - “U.S./MODEL/1884”. Receiver - “349338”. Buttplate - “US”. & Stock - script “P” inside a circle.
Condition: Rifle retains 70- 80% of its original finish with areas of wear/thinning forward of the stock . The metal shows some scratches and light dings. No signs of rust or corrosion. The action is mechanically sound, the markings are very good, the bore has been worn smooth, and the black walnut stock is good with many dings, dents & scrapes.
