original French Model 1884 Kropatschek rifle, used and in good condition for its age. This is a very rare and historically significant rifle, with only 20,000 produced before the model was discontinued in favor of the more modern Model 1886 Lebel.
Originally designed for the French Naval and Marine forces in the late 1800s, this rifle represents a pivotal transitional period in French military armament. What makes this particular example exceptionally rare and collectible is its dual wartime service:
It bears a Cyrillic “N” marking on top of the receiver and Cyrillic script on the underside of the stock, indicating that it was part of a rare batch sent to Russia as aid during World War I.
It also features a “Made in France” stamp on the receiver, showing it was re-imported to the U.S. from Spain in the 1960s, having previously been supplied to Franco’s forces during the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s.
This is a hard-to-find original example of a French Model 1884 Kropatschek Marine rifle with a unique combat history—spanning the French Navy, Russian WWI service, and the Spanish Civil War. A true survivor that would make an outstanding addition to any advanced French military collection, or for enthusiasts of rifles with multi-theater service histories.
