Up for sale is a used, antique Ball & Williams Ballard Sporting Rifle chambered in 44 cal rf or percussion. Octagon barrel measures 24 ¼" in length with a moderately bright, frosted bore with scattered light to moderate pits. Barrel retains about 80% thinning and brown toning blued finish with scattered scratches, freckling and spots of older rust staining and the bottom barrel flat has an added dovetail cut. Remaining metal surfaces are a flaking, mostly silvery patina with scattered older staining and some streaks of case color in a few of the protected areas along with handling marks and some pinprick pitting. Smooth wood forend and straight grip crescent buttstock shows scattered scratches and handling marks with some spots of older staining and some flaking finish. Rifle is sighted with a drift adjustable silver front blade sight and a two position folding short ladder/rear notch, but the slider/elevation assembly for the ladder is missing. Ball & Willaims markings on the left side of the receiver are somewhat worn but still partially legible but serial and caliber markings are still clear with matching serials on the receiver and barrel and the manual extractor is marked with the first two digits of the serial. Hammer holds at half and full cock and is equipped with a dual firing mechanism for both rimfire and percussion.
