The action functions correctly. The rifle has a three-position safety similar to the M1903: all the way to the left locks the bolt and disables the trigger; straight up disables the trigger but the bolt is free to move, and to the right enables the rifle to be fired.
The bore is gray with heavy wear in the rifling. There is light erosion the length of the bore with spots of moderate erosion from the muzzle back several inches. Our bore gauge measures a ME of 3.6.
This lightweight vintage rifle would be ideal for someone wanting a light saddle gun or a rifle to put in the rear window of their pickup when out in the field or on a mountain trail where they might run across a deer for the pot or a coyote bothering their livestock.
