Here's a very nice Colt 1911A1 .45 auto that was manufactured midway through WWII. The finish is all original and the slide is properly serial numbered beneath the firing pin retainer and is matching to the frame. The barrel is correctly marked "COLT 45 AUTO" beneath the chamber and there is a small "F" stamped ahead of the lugs. The Coltwood plastic grips are correct with large reinforcing rings & strengthening ribs. The hammer, mainspring housing, safety, milled trigger, and slide stop are all checkered and correct for the period of manufacture. The Parkerized finish is in great shape and completely original with no touch-up or refinishing. The ordnance crossed cannons acceptance, G.H.D. inspector's initials, and Colt's "VP" verified proof are all clearly stamped through the finish, confirming original finish. The feed ramp is also properly milled in the white. Overall condition is excellent with very little actual finish loss. There are only a couple minor handling marks and a small amount of sharp edge wear. The grip straps retain almost all of their finish. I'd grade the original parkerized finish about 97% overall. The stocks are also in excellent shape, free of cracks or chips. The mechanics are in perfect working order and the bore rates excellent with strong, sharp rifling.
This pistol comes with two original finish WWII magazines, both marked "C-L" on the bottom of the base indicating M.S. Little subcontract for Colt. One mag shows a bit more finish wear than the other but both are in good working order. Factory records indicate that this pistol was shipped to Springfield Armory in late July or early August of 1943.
A very nice example of the wartime Colt 1911A1!!
