Long considered the "Cadillac of Revolvers", here's a Colt Python chambered in .357 Magnum. This classic revolver wears the 6-inch ventilated rib barrel and is factory finished in beautiful bright nickel. Overall condition is excellent and I'd grade the original finish rates 98% overall. There are a few of the usual minor handling marks but no actual finish loss and the finish is free of any rust, peeling, or cloudiness. The screw heads are clean and sharp. The correct & original "type 3" checkered walnut Python grips feature gold Colt medallions and are in very good shape and free of cracks or large chips. There are a few small handling marks and some nicks along the bottom/front edges. The mechanics are in perfect working order with correct timing and solid lock-up. The bore is also excellent with bright, sharp rifling. It would appear this revolver has seen only limited use over the last four decades. According to Colt's serial number lookup this Python was manufactured in 1979. The original Colt Python was essentially a factory custom revolver and required much hand fitting, making it an expensive gun to produce. Sadly this classic Colt was discontinued in 2005 and prices continue to rise on what was one of the finest revolvers of all time.
The new production "Python" is a fine revolver but differs significantly from the original.
