Here's an early production Springfield M1 Garand rifle that was shipped to England as part of the Lend Lease program prior to the United States' entry into WWII. These Lend Lease M1's were held in reserve by the British, just in case the Germans landed on English beaches. Fortunately that never came to pass.
This rifle was manufactured in about September, 1941 and remains in very nice condition.
There are British proofs along the right side of the barrel in the op-rod cut but there are no import markings nor any rework stamps. Overall condition is very good and the rifle retains almost all of the original parkerized finish. There is no rust or any pitting. The op rod is uncut. The stock is in excellent condition and has been carefully restored to like new. The guaranteed original stock markings are still clearly visible on the left side and consist of a boxed S.A./G.H.S. inspection marking and a large crossed cannons final acceptance stamp. There is a single circle-P firing proof behind the trigger guard. The stock is free of cracks, chips or repairs. This rifle is in perfect working order with everything functioning as it should. The bore is in outstanding shape and shows bright, sharp rifling with "like new" throat erosion (0.4) and muzzle wear (1.0) readings! It comes with a good condition M1907 leather sling and nickel plated brass oiler with pull-through and brush. A very nice "Pre-Pearl Harbor" M1 in essentially time-capsule condition!
