Springfield M1D GARAND SNIPER RIFLE .30-06 Springfield

Here's a very nice looking Springfield Armory M1D Sniper rifle. This weapon was originally built as a standard SA M1 Garand prior to WWII in the Spring of 1941. It was subsequently upgraded to sniper configuration with the addition of the special Springfield manufactured M1D barrel. The barrel has an integral block on the left side which allows easy scope attachment with a special matching mount. The barrel is dated 8-52 and has the correct drawing number along the top beneath the handguard. Virtually all M1D rifles are "rebuilt" and were manufactured using receivers and parts from inventory. Because of this, they can be found in almost any serial number range. All parts appear to be of Springfield manufacture, some WWII era & some post-war, as would be expected. The rifle retains about 95% of the refinish on the metal components with some marks on the gas cylinder and front of the barrel. There is no rust or significant pitting (there is some very, very fine pitting in a few spots on the receiver if you're looking from six inches away). The stock has been refinished and is in very nice condition. There are no cracks or chips and only a few very minor handling marks. The only remaining marks is a very faint circled-P proof on the front of the pistol grip. There are no rework stamps in the wood, nor are there any import markings anywhere on the rifle. This rifle is in excellent mechanical condition and has an excellent bore that shows bright, sharp rifling. Throat erosion measures about 2.4 and muzzle wear about 1.5. It comes with a very good condition M84 scope (serial number 33325). The scope operates properly and has good optics. There are a few minor surface scratches in the blue finish but no rust. The rubber eye cup is in good condition. The mount is a USGI original and in excellent condition with only very light finish wear. Also included is a USGI original Hart Mfg. M2 Flash Hider that is in very good shape and retains most of its original parkerized finish. The leather cheek piece and nice canvas sling round out the rifle. This is a great looking M1D that would be a fun rifle to shoot!
