This is a relatively early Winchester Model 42 hammerless pump action shotgun. Records indicate this shotgun was manufactured in late 1934, the 2nd year of production. Chambered for the .410 shotshell, this Model 42 has a 3" chamber and wears a 28-inch barrel that is marked for Full choke. Condition is very good and the shotgun retains about 92-93% of the original factory blue finish.
The stocks are in good overall condition with some normal wear but no cracks or chips. The buttstock has been refinished and someone added a Winchester hard rubber grip cap (an amateurish effort that fits poorly and is loose as well). The buttplate is in very good condition, showing only normal wear. Length of pull measures about 14-inches. The original pre-war pump handle has never been sanded or refinished, remains in excellent shape, and has nearly all of its original varnish. Mechanically, this shotgun appears to be in excellent shape. There is no looseness at the takedown union and the adjustment collar has never been tightened. The bore is excellent...bright with no pitting, dents or problems. The buttstock could be properly refinished to look much better or this would make a nice little field gun just as it is.
