Here is a very nice 12 gauge boxlock ejector by William Evans of London, built in 1903. The 28" barrels have 2 ½" chambers and shiny bores, with some light roughness in the right bore ahead of the chamber. The chokes .006/.015 (about skeet/light modified.) The rib is engraved: WILLIAM EVANS. FROM PURDEY'S. 63 PALL MALL. ST JAMES'S. LONDON. The gun has a doll's head extension and locks up tight. The ejectors are strong and in time. The receiver is engraved: WILLIAM EVANS FROM PURDEY'S, surrounded by excellent bouquet and scroll engraving. There are intercepting sears. There are “disk set” firing pins. The fore-end has an Anson push-rod release. There are some marks in the fore-end checkering.
The beautifully figured stock measures 1 ½" x 2 3/8" x 14 5/8" including a 1" pad. (13 5/8" to the end of the wood.) There is cast off (for a right hand shot.) The weight is 6 lbs 8 oz. The gun comes in a good canvas case.
A very high quality English game gun.
