Here's a Winchester Model 21 Side-by-Side shotgun. The Model 21 is legendary. The materials used and the mechanical design are such that no other double gun surpassed the Model 21 in strength and durability.
For good reason it has been said that the Model 21 approaches perfection.
This is a Standard "Field" Grade gun chambered for 20-gauge shells and wears 28-inch barrels. The chokes were factory marked on the bottoms of the barrels "MOD." & "FULL" but have been lined out and restamped "IMP CYL" & "MOD". The choke constrictions measure .004" and .010" respectively. The chambers too have been lengthened to three inches with a "3" stamped on the left barrel chamber behind the factory marking. This gun features the single-selective trigger, automatic ejectors, and automatic safety. The walnut stocks show nice figure and the buttstock is in the typical Standard grade form with pistol grip without cap. The previous owner, who believes in shooting his guns, had a black "Decelerator" pad professionally installed. Length of Pull is 14-3/8", Drop @ Heel is 2-3/8", Drop @ Comb is 1-1/2". It has a beavertail forend with the standard "kidney" pattern checkering. Weight is 6-pounds, 11-ounces.
Overall condition is excellent and this is a solid, attractive gun. The metal finish is original and in very good shape. There is finish loss to the lower tang and some light finish wear to the bottom of the frame including some small dings just forward of the trigger guard. I'd grade the finish on the frame at about 90-93%. The barrels also have their original finish and are also in very fine shape with only a few light handling marks and some slight wear at the edges of the muzzles. I'd grade the barrel finish at 96-98% overall. There is no rust or any pitting on this gun. The stocks are in very fine condition, free of cracks or chips, and showing only a few handling marks. The varnish appears to be original. Mechanically, this Model 21 is in excellent shape and locks up solidly with the top lever still well right of center. The trigger, selector, ejectors, and safety all work perfectly. The bores are also in excellent shape, both mirror bright with no pitting, dents or bulges. This desirable American classic comes with a Cody Museum letter that shows factory records indicate this gun was shipped as a 20-gauge Field grade gun with 28" barrels, single trigger, selective ejectors, pistol grip stock & Beavertail forend. The letter shows the gun was special ordered on November 3, 1948 and the final inspection was completed on November 22, 1948. A reproduction of a Winchester Model 21 instruction manual will also be included.
