Fully engraved antique Colt Lightning 1877. Beautiful deep-relief after-market engraving covers 90% of this first generation 1877 Lightning. The engraving is a scroll pattern throughout with pin dot engraving as well on the frame. Scroll engraving is present on the frame, trigger guard, backstrap, barrel cylinder and hammer. The frame and trigger guard are stamped with the original serial number 148488 making it a 1903 date of manufacture. Revolver is perfectly fitted with immaculate antique ivory grips. Correct three-line patent dates and Rampant Colt emblem are in good condition. Original “Colt D.A. 38” on the side of 4-inch barrel is sharp as well as the correct two-line barrel address “Colt’s PT.F.A. MFG. Co, Hartford CT. U.S.A.” The engraver’s signature “W.B. Ellis” is engraved on the front of the frame just below the base pin. The bore is good with decent rifling but some slight pitting in one spot on the right inside of the barrel. The frame, barrel, trigger guard and cylinder are blued. The hammer appears to have a deep blue case color hardening. All screws, ejector rod head, cylinder pin and base pin retain a bright fire-blued finish. Several of the screwheads are engraved as well.
