Up for sale is a nice, antique British EM Reilly SxS hammer underlever shotgun in 8 bore. Damascus barrels measure 35 ¾" in length with mostly bright, strong good bores with a few scattered spots of frosting and what looks like softened or polished shallow pitting. Barrels retain about 20% brown finish with the balance being mottled gray patina with scattered older rust staining, handling marks, a few scattered nicks and some very fine pinprick pitting in some of the staining and the damascus pattern is only partially visible. Receiver retains some original polished blue on the left side plate and portions of the trigger guard and lower tang with the balance being gray patina along with older staining and handling marks and the belly of the receiver does show some faint case color. Checkered wood forend and straight grip buttstock are dark from age but still show some attractive grain with a horn tip on the forend and the toe line of the butt has a monogram plate. Furniture shows scattered scratches, nicks and bumps with moderate wear to the checkering. Shotgun is sighted with single front bead on a solid, low, smooth and slightly concave rib. Sideplates show the makers name in banners with name also being marked on the rib with both London and Paris addresses while the water table, barrels and forend show matching serial numbers with London proof marks on water table and barrels. Barrel to frame fit and lock appears solid with the barrels on-face and the rebounding hammers hold when cocked. LOP measures 14 ½" from the front trigger with drops of about 1 7/8" and 2 ½".
Impressive shotgun that should make a good addition to your collection.
