Potsdam Musket 1821 12 ga Black Powder
Frederick Willhelm conversion.
This famous Prussian musket was used in American Civil War, mainly confederate army.
Nicknamed the pumpkin slinger. More than likely most found today were in that war? This one has initials, few other folk-type conversations. Worst being trying to make patch box or something?
This gun is well marked other than the alterations noted.
As far as authenticity - this one has its typical 41 1/4” barrel, 72 caliber smooth bore.
Parts are stamped 9 or 6 with dots.
Stories or documents out there, of mainly Union purchases?
I was always led to believe the south purchased these in desperation? These are scarce in my area!
Neat piece of history & fun to research.
