Spanish Model 1895 Mauser MFD 1925

Model 1895 Spanish Mauser manufactured at Fabric de Armas de Oviedo in 1925. The rifle is chambered for the 7 X 57 Mauser cartridge. Fabric de Armas de Oviedos was a Spanish National Armory beginning in the late 1800s. In 1896, the German arms manufacturer Ludwig & Lowe installed an assembly line for Model 1893 Mausers. Strangely, the rifles were designated as the Model 1895. Production of the Model 1895s continued until 1943. They were used by the Spanish Army and many other countries.
SN 2P 7363, is in military configuration, complete with a full stock, hand guard, cleaning rod, front and rear sling swivels. With the very accurate 7 X 57 MM cartridge, the rear sight is graduated out to 2000 yards. The standard “battle sight” zero is 300 yards. The rifle has an excellent arsenal re-blue. The metal components are a deep blue/black with no rust, corrosion or pitting. The “Spanish Crest” has been partially brushed out, but is still visible. The bore shows normal wear, but there is lots of rifling. With the full stock and the low recoil of the 7MM cartridge, the rifle is a pleasure to shoot.

Most of the numbers match. Receiver 2 P 7363, Stock 7363, Magazine Well/Trigger Guard 7363, Magazine Floor Plate 7363 and the Bolt Handle is 7363. The Safety Lever is numbered 528 and the Safety Body is 793.


The stock and hand guard are good shape with the wood grain showing an excellant pattern. There are no chips or cracks. There is one area on the left side of the butt stock with several dings all going in the same direction. Just in front of the butt plate is what appears to be a “rack number”, 112. There is no Import Mark, indicating that the rifle came into the U.S. before 1960.

My records show that I bought the Mauser at a Dallas Arms Collectors Show in 1980 When I was still in the US. Other than being shot a few times by myself, my sons and their sons, it has lived a sheltered life on the back row of a gun safe for the last 45 years. A very clean, unmodified and collectible Spanish Model 1895 Mauser.
