This is a vintage pre-‘64 Winchester Model 70 Featherweight bolt action rifle made in 1961. It is chambered in .243 Win. and has a 22” and anodized aluminum trigger guard and magazine floorplate to save weight. The rifle has a Picatinny rail mounted on the receiver, but the tall iron sights can still be seen above the rail, so it doesn’t have to be removed. The rifle is in about Very Good to Fine condition and the bore is bright with sharp rifling. The .243 Win. is based on a necked-down .308 Win. and is a nice flat shooting rifle that is great for antelope and deer, and can also be used for varmints in its lighter loadings. This would make someone a nice light-weight deer rifle that doesn’t have a lot of recoil.
The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.
However, the pre-64 Winchester Model 70 rifles are prized by the collectors, and the Featherweights are no exception. This rifle will be of interest to collectors and shooters alike.
