Massachusetts Arms Co Civil War Antique Carbine Poultey & Trimble Smiths

Civil War Carbine. Mass Arms Co, Smith Carbine extensively used by many Cavalry Units during War. This antique Smith's Patent Carbine, made circa 1863 by Massachusetts Arms Co. of Chicopee Falls, Mass. About 30,000 of these carbines were mad and almost all of the were used by the Union cavalry of the American Civil War. According to Flayderman, the Smith Carbine was known to have been utilized in number by the 3rd West Virginia, 7th and 11th Illinois, 1st Connecticut, 7th and 17th Pennsylvania, 6th and 9th Ohio, and 1st Massachusetts Cavalries.
The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces bear a light gray patina. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match. The shoulder stock has been replaced, but we have the original as seen in pics. and also a replacement forend (shown also). The bore is sharp and bright, the action is excellent, nice and tight! Barrel is 21 1/2", LOP is 14.5"
